Ask any football fan about the best NFL team of all time and you’ll likely get a fast response. Ask a hundred fans, and you ‘ll likely end up with a hundred totally different responses. What makes a football team the “best” to one fan is totally subjective, unless you look at actual numeric rankings and stats. Geography and team loyalty aside, selecting the best NFL teams of all time means considering everything from the number of games won in a season to the number of Hall of Famers a team can claim.

NFL Team with the Most Games Won in a Season: 1972 Miami Dolphins

1972 DolphinsThe 1972 Dolphins are considered one of the all-time greatest teams; they did not lose a single game during the entire season, ending up with a 17-0 record. As of 2011, no other team has yet to go an entire season without a loss, leading many to consider the 72 Dolphins to be the greatest of all time.Highlights:

  • Head coach Don Shula lead a solid team that included quarterback Bob Griese, Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick and Larry Csonka to their undefeated season.
  • The Dolphins lost quarterback Bob Griese in the fifth game of the season. Griese was replaced by Earl Morrall for the remainder of the regular season.

In 2011,the Bears celebrated their 81st birthday – giving them plenty of time to produce multiple Hall of Fame players.
