Federer Survives 1st Round Scare at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON, England – Roger Federer is as close to unbeatable on grass as you can get. He is a six time Wimbledon champion. But on Day 1 of the 2010 Wimbledon tournament, he was something else. Or, better yet, he was someone else.

Almost.

But being able to have now won six matches when trailing two sets to none will help anyone stave off upsets.

Federer was almost a victim of one of the greatest upsets in Wimbledon history.

Federer survived a scare by Alejando Falla in their first round match, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.

He is gunning for a record tying seventh Wimbledon championship, and many people feel it will be a difficult feat due to the tough draw that he received. He has the likes of Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic and Lleyton Hewitt in his half, and still will most likely have to go through Rafael Nadal to win the title.

But no one thought that Falla would pose any threat whatsoever.

Falla is the 65th ranked player in the world. Federer had faced the Colombian in four previous matches, and had never lost a set. Now he has lost two sets, but not any matches.

Federer is looking to tie Pete Sampras with seven Wimbledon championships.

He will have to play much better throughout the rest of the tournament for that to happen.
