2013 NFL Draft: Could Detroit Lions Draft Denard Robinson With Strong Senior Bowl Performance?

In the 2013 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions are considering drafting University of Michigan quarterback/wide receiver Denard Robinson, as the former standout for the Wolverines has publicly stated that he is not about to pull a Tim Tebow.

To sum up what that means, Robinson is willing to play whatever position a team wants in order to continue his play at the next level; that being the National Football League.

While Tebow insists that he is a starting quarterback in the NFL, Robinson knows better than to say that he will only play the position he is familiar with the most. He already proved that at Michigan over the course of the 2012 NCAA Football season, receiving some time at wide out as well as in the kick return game. He is more than willing to do whatever it takes to prove that he can play in the NFL and, that has impressed at least one team.

According to MLive.com, Robinson has spoken with “several” teams to this point, and many of them expressed an interest in seeing him play some wide receiver during his time at the Senior Bowl this week.

“They said they wanna see me catch,” Robinson told MLive.com after the practice at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. “That’s what they’re all telling me, and that’s what I want to show people. I know I can catch. I’m a football player. Just got to show it.”

It is nice to hear someone say that they are a football player and not strictly a positional player, even though they may be in over their head to say they will only play one position.

If you have read my articles on other sites, you know what I think about Tebow as an NFL quarterback. It is akin to what I think of Will Ferrell as a comedic actor. I just don’t get it.

Robinson has been a bit dinged up throughout the past four or five months and that has continued to take its toll thus far during Senior Bowl week practice. If he can show teams that he could be a productive wide receiver in the NFL, Robinson could go as high as the second round, due to his pure athleticism and ability to make opposing defenders miss.
