Joe Flacco: Ravens QB Says Outdoor Super Bowl XLVIII In New Jersey Is ‘Retarded’

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco has always been outspoken. He has always been extremely and painfully dull and boring, yet has still found a way to be one of the more outspoken players in the entire NFL, and this is a league which includes the likes of Rex Ryan, Chad Johnson, James Harrison, Richard Sherman and his own teammate, Ray Lewis. While most of Flacco’s comments have to do with how great he is and deserves to be the highest paid QB in the NFL, his latest remark regarding the Super Bowl has gone too far.

And, by the way, he wasn’t even talking about Super Bowl XLVII, which is to be played between his Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in New Orleans. Flacco is already discussing next year’s Super Bowl XLVIII, which will be played outdoors in New Jersey.

“I think it’s retarded. I probably shouldn’t say that. I think it’s stupid,” said Flacco at his press conference, according to the New York Post. “If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one… Other than that I don’t really like the idea. I don’t think people would react very well to it, or be glad to play anybody in that kind of weather.”

Flacco has one thing right. He shouldn’t have said what he said. Flacco’s statements about Super Bowl XLVIII reveal what sort of person he truly is, as if we didn’t have so much insight already.

I won’t even go into the fact that New Jersey/New York was awarded this Super Bowl for so many reasons, including to help regenerate cash flow into a struggling area. I won’t go into the fact that the high majority of players would love to play in Super Bowl XLVIII in New York or New Jersey or New England or New Zealand. It is the Super Bowl. If you are complaining about what the weather may or not be over a year from now on sports’ biggest stage, then you are the one who should be called stupid.

In this case, don’t hate the game. Hate the player.
