NBA Rumors: Could Keyon Dooling Step Out Of Boston Celtics Front Office Role And Replace Rajon Rondo?

Rajon Rondo is out for the rest of the season for the Boston Celtics, and the team is scrambling to find a replacement in order to prove to Danny Ainge that this can still be an NBA championship contender. Doc Rivers says that the Celtics “aren’t going anywhere,” but, depending on how his team plays over the next few weeks, that could still hold true, just in the wrong fashion.

As in, this team isn’t going anywhere, so it may be time to blow up the entire roster. Rivers hopes that the Celtics aren’t going anywhere in terms of departing the top eight in the standings, but it will largely depend on who takes over for Rondo, and how the rest of the team steps up in his absence.

Rivers said that the Celtics will look to the current roster for Rondo’s replacement, but could that include former players who are currently retired and who hold a role in the front office?

Keyon Dooling is not ruling out that possibility.

According to Boston.com, Dooling would at least consider stepping out of his front office role with Boston in order to attempt an NBA comeback for the Celtics over the final half of the season.

“I’m not in shape, but I would [consider it],”Dooling told the Boston Globe after Boston upset the Miami Heat in its first game without Rondo, who tore his ACL the previous game in a loss against the Atlanta Hawks.

It has been an up and down past year for Dooling, who retired after playing very well down the stretch for the Celtics last season and then spoke out how he was sexually abused as a child. At just 32-years-old, Dooling has held a an advisory role with the Celtics this season. He has dropped a few hints throughout the 2012-2013 season already about how he may have an itch that needs to be scratched when it comes to playing in the NBA again and, if he and the Celtics feel it would benefit the team, his time could be now.
