Bobcats Name Change: Charlotte Bobcats To Revert Name Change Back To Charlotte Hornets In 2014?

The Charlotte Hornets were once a proud franchise whose winning ways inspired other expansion teams to put together a winning product on the basketball court. Led by players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Muggsy Bogues, the Hornets called Charlotte home from 1988 through 2002, when they were moved to New Orleans. With New Orleans opting to drop the Hornets moniker in favor of the Pelicans, the buzz in Charlotte is that the Bobcats are seriously considering reverting back to the Hornets.

New name, new attitude? Maybe not, but it is not as if anything else has worked in the Queen City on the hardwood. Michael Jordan may have had plenty of success playing against the Hornets as a member of the Chicago Bulls and even the Washington Wizards, but as owner, he has done very little to turn around a sorry franchise.

Unfortunately, Charlotte fans may be stuck being Bobcats for at least one more season, as NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver reportedly told season ticket holders back in April that such a name change would generally take 18 months to implement.

Therefore, fans can leave their Johnson No. 2 or Mourning No. 33 jerseys in the attic for one more season. Although, truth be told, there is probably more pride involved in donning those throwback jerseys today than there is in sporting a Bismarck Biyombo No. 0 or a Josh McRoberts No. 11 jersey right now.
