Top College Basketball Player Andrew Wiggins, who has attended Huntington Prep in West Virginia, has announced that he will sign with Kansas Jayhawks the to play his freshman season of the upcoming college basketball season. I say freshman season, as Wiggings is expected to be yet another one-and-done prospect who is likely to become the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Wiggins, who is from Canada, had narrowed his decision down to four teams. Kansas won out over the Kentucky Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels and Florida State Seminoles. He is one of the highest touted high school seniors in quite some time, and is expected to help lead the Jayhawks in what could be his lone season in Kansas as he replaced Ben McLemore, who was the latest great one-and-done in college basketball.
While Wiggins will hope to lead the Jayhawks to a National Championship during the 2013-2014 CBB season, some speculated that he could have played overseas next season and skipped playing in college this year. That was all squashed once Wiggins announced to sign with Bill Self and Kansas.
Joining Kansas gives the Jayhawks a legitimate chance to win the National Championship next season. Had he signed on to play for the Kentucky Wildcats, it would have given John Calipari one of the best recruiting classes in the history of the sport. Joining North Carolina would have added a top prospect to an experienced team, while Florida State was mainly in the mix because family members attended the school.
