Are you a college football fan? Better yet, are you a fan of a specific college football team? Well, that may depend on the level you go to in order to show your school spirit. According to the results of Week four of the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll, you may pale in comparison to what college football fans surveyed in their poll said they do to show their school spirit.

Before we get to the extreme school spirit that some fans show in support of their favorite college football team, take a look at some of the other results from Week four of the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll. This week’s poll revealed that 56 percent of college football fans would go back and relive one day of college if they were given the opportunity. The poll found Pac-12 fans want to relive a day of college most, at 61 percent, followed by Big 12 fans at 60 percent and Big Ten fans at 58 percent. The face that the Pac-12 comes in at No. 1 comes as absolutely zero surprise, given the fact that they have already been voted as top party school conference as well as earned the moniker as the toughest tailgaters. This is a conference that knows how to have fun, so why wouldn’t college football fans want to go back to their alma mater – even if for just one day – to relive their glory days in college?

It was also discovered that overall, women would take the chance to relive college for one day more than men, with a margin of 60 percent of women compared to 54 percent of men. I guess girls really do just want to have fun, and they will take any opportunity offered to go back and have one last blast in college. The extra-fresh college memories may be a factor in the 76 percent of 18-29 year olds who would go back for a day, followed by 60 percent of 30-39 year olds. When it comes to loyalty and school spirit, how far would you go to show your unwavering support for your favorite college football team? Have any of you ever gotten a tattoo of the leprechaun of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish? What about painting your body blue and white to show your support for the North Carolina Tar Heels? Would you color your hair green and yellow in support of the Oregon Ducks? How about stealing the Tiger before the South Carolina Gamecocks take on the Clemson Tigers?
If you have done one or more of these things, then you are truly a fan. If not, then you may still consider yourself a fan, but can you say it to the same extent as those who have done any of the aforementioned things in support of their favorite college football team?
Fear not if the answer is no, as the majority of those who were surveyed have not.

Getting back to the Week four Discover Fan Loyalty Poll, when it comes to showing school spirit, here is what some of the most loyal college football fans in the country said they would do in support of their favorite team:
· Getting a tattoo related to your team, 3 percent
· Painting body parts, 3 percent
· Coloring your hair, 3 percent
· Stolen the rival team’s mascot, 1 percent
· You have done more than one of these, 4 percent
· You’ve done much crazier, c’mon!, 3 percent
If you haven’t done any of these things, don’t feel too badly about it. It may not mean that you are less of a fan as those who have. In fact, it means that you are in the vast majority of fans who cheer for their team each and every week, but do not feel the need to show it at the next level. In fact, 79 percent never do have, and may never will!
Finally, to no great surprise, college football fans agree with the writers and coaches and computers that the Alabama Crimson Tide remain the No. 1 team in the country. Entering a huge showdown on Saturday night at home against the LSU Tigers, the Tide continue to roll in the minds of the college football fans surveyed in the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll, receiving 44 percent of the vote as the top team in the nation. The fans and the BCS Standings have the No. 2 and No. 3 team in reverse order, and I happen to agree with them. Behind Alabama in Week four of the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll is the Oregon Ducks (15 percent), who are No. 3 in the BCS Standings. The Florida State Seminoles (12 percent) – No. 2 in the latest BCS Standings – come in at No. 3 in the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll. The Ohio State Buckeyes (7 percent) are fourth.
While the Tide have a difficult home game on Saturday night, the Ducks face their stiffest challenge of the season in a huge Thursday night road game against the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal. With many big games on Thursday and Saturday in Week 11 of the college football season, we can all rest assured that the polls will look quite different within the next few days.
