At one point in the season, it appeared as if this game may have had a pair of Heisman Trophy finalists in Clemson QB Tajh Boyd and Ohio State QB Braxton Miller, but both failed to reach the list of six finalists. Still, that should not diminish what both have done throughout this season, as Boyd and Miller are two huge reasons why the Tigers and Buckeyes are headed to Miami on January 3.
If you like high scoring games, then you have come to the right place. Ohio State ranks 4th in overall scoring, averaging 46.3 points per game, while Clemson is No. 12 at just over 40 points per game. Both defenses allow just over 21 points per game, so this should be a very competitive game.
The Buckeyes get plenty from Miller through the air, but he and Carlos Hyde also play a huge part with the No. 4 rushing offense in the country. The Buckeyes average over 317 yards per game on the ground, which is good for 4th in the nation.
The Tigers are more reliant on Boyd to put up big games and numbers through the air, as Clemson ranks 12th in the nation in passing yards per game. Thanks to weapons such as WR Sammy Watkins, it is no surprise why Clemson has such great success in the aerial assault this season. They will need one more big game from Boyd before watching him depart for the NFL after this season’s Orange Bowl.
Like I said, this game should go down as an instant classic in terms of some of the best recent college football bowl games. The Tigers and Buckeyes are so evenly matched that this could go down to the final second. Just make sure that you continue to take advantage of the special social media campaign brought to you by Discover in voicing your opinion of which team will come out on top on January 3!
