The Road To MetLife Stadium: Pete Carroll Looking To Join Football Coaching Elite With Super Bowl Victory

On The Road To MetLife Stadium, many players from the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are looking to make some history in Super Bowl XLVIII. Peyton Manning can become the first starting quarterback to ever lead two different teams to a Super Bowl championship. Derrick Coleman is the first ever legally deaf player on offense to play in a Super Bowl. Other players are also looking to write their names in the record books, as Super Bowl XLVIII will be a historic event for multiple reasons. One of those reasons comes from Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who can make some history and join the football coaching elite with a Seattle victory in MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, I’m working as part of the Road to MetLife Stadium Preferred Blogger Program. Throughout the year I’ll be receiving special access to MetLife events and be conducting reader giveaways, with prizes provided by MetLife and Sony Electronics. However, no payment was given or expected for posting about the program, and as always, all opinions given here are fully my own.

With a win on Sunday, Carroll would become just the third ever head coach to be able to boast of winning a Super Bowl in the NFL as well as a National Championship in college football. Jimmy Johnson won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys after leading the Miami Hurricanes to a National Championship. Barry Switzer also led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl after bringing a national title to the Oklahoma Sooners. Carroll led the USC Trojans to a National Championship in college, and will look to join Johnson and Switzer as the only coaches to ever win a championship in college and the NFL.

Carroll enjoyed limited success in the NFL as a head coach with the New York Jets and New England Patriots before returning to college to lead USC to a BCS Championship, although it was vacated due to NCAA violations and sanctions were levied against the Trojans. Still, Carroll can join Johnson and Switzer with a win on Sunday.

We know that a Super Bowl cannot be vacated, so at least Carroll could lay claim to being able to forever relish a Super Bowl championship.

Finally, in case you have not yet seen the video of NFL players – both past and present – signing a collaborative version of the National Anthem, then what are you waiting for? I must admit that I went into it expecting to have some laughs, but these guys were pretty impressive. Current players such as Justin Tuck and Josh Brown of the New York Giants, Greg Jennings of the Minnesota Vikings and Nick Mangold of the New York Jets, as well as former stars including Emmitt Smith and Eddie George all got together to put out quite an impressive rendition of the National Anthem. If you have not yet seen it, make sure to check it out by clicking here.

If you are looking for which team may have a greater edge, make sure to check out Stats.com. If the temperatures dip below 40 degrees on Super Bowl Sunday, which is nearly a foregone conclusion, Stats.com will tell you how things could play out when the Broncos face the Seahawks in MetLife Stadium in Super Bowl XLVIII. It would appear that Denver may have an edge on special teams and the kicking game with Matt Prater over Steven Hauschka, but Stats.com has plenty of eye-opening numbers that may cause you to bet on one team over the other.
