The Road To MetLife Stadium: San Francisco 49ers Using Superstition While Looking To Become Ultimate Road Warriors

The San Francisco 49ers have known for quite some time that The Road To MetLife Stadium would go through the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Seattle clinched home field throughout the NFC Championship Game by finishing with the best record in the conference. Of course, San Francisco is developing quite a reputation for being able to win away from Candlestick Park, going 6-2 in the regular season and defeating the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers in the first two rounds of the 2013-2014 NFL Playoffs. Now, having to face one of the best teams at home in recent history, the 49ers are going to use a bit of superstition.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, I’m working as part of the Road to MetLife Stadium Preferred Blogger Program. Throughout the year I’ll be receiving special access to MetLife events and be conducting reader giveaways, with prizes provided by MetLife and Sony Electronics. However, no payment was given or expected for posting about the program, and as always, all opinions given here are fully my own.

In the past, including their past two drubbings on the road against the Seahawks, the 49ers left a day before. They had used that same sort of travel itinerary for most of the past few seasons. But then, while preparing to go on the road in the postseason to battle the Packers and Panthers, who were a combined 11-4-1 at home (Green Bay likely would have had a better record than 4-3-1 had they had the services of Aaron Rodgers in all of the games this season), San Francisco hit the road two days early.

Needless to say, they will do the same this week while getting ready to face the Seahawks in a stadium in which the 49ers have dropped their past two games by a combined score of 71-16.

Perhaps, their new 2-day rule will translate to one more big win away from home, making the 49ers the ultimate road warriors, while punching their ticket to MetLife Stadium to play in Super Bowl XLVIII.

If you are looking for which team may have a greater edge, make sure to check out Stats.com. If the temperatures dip below 40 degrees on Sunday, Stats.com will tell you why we may very well be watching the Patriots face the 49ers in MetLife Stadium in Super Bowl XLVIII. Of course, the Broncos and Seahawks may have something to say in that matter, regardless of how low the temperatures dip.
