On The Road To MetLife Stadium, the Seattle Seahawks did what many people felt was impossible. If not impossible, perhaps, at least improbable. In Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks held the most prolific offense in NFL history to a season-low eight points. The Seahawks were all over the Broncos in a 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII blowout right from the start. While many were shocked that Seattle was able to hold Denver to single digits, and a touchdown that only came during garbage time, Richard Sherman was surprised as well. Not that the Broncos only scored eight points, but that they were able to score against the Seahawks’ No. 1 ranked defense at all.

Leading up to the big game at MetLife Stadium, there was plenty of talk from both sides. Well, there was plenty of talk from the Seahawks. The broncos did little talking leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII, and were able to do even less in the actual game itself. The Seahawks made sure of it. Still, that did not prevent Sherman from doing a little more talking after a decisive Seattle win in Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium.
“Did we know we’d hold the Broncos to eight points in the Super Bowl?” Sherman wrote Friday in his column for TheMMQB.com. “Honestly, we’re a little upset it wasn’t a shutout.”
Sherman continued, “The No. 1 motivation throughout these playoffs and in the Super Bowl was doubt. Some said Denver’s offense would outgun us. They said nobody cares about defense anymore. Offense wins championships. But we took pride in being great and being No. 1 in a lot of categories. We wanted to cement our legacy as one of the best defenses to ever play in the NFL, and we did that.”
Hard to argue.
The Broncos may have had the No. 1 offense last season, and perhaps the No. 1 offense in the history of the NFL. Clearly, that was still no match for the Seahawks and their incredibly stifling defense.
