The Road To MetLife Stadium: Super Bowl XLVIII Comes Down To Top Units Unlike The Opposition Has Ever Faced

We are just hours away from the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks converging on the final stages of The Road To MetLife Stadium. Super Bowl Sunday has finally arrived, meaning the Broncos and Seahawks will be getting ready to make their final preparations as they head to MetLife Stadium to battle it out in Super Bowl XLVIII. This has all the makings of an instant classic, with the top scoring Broncos going up against the Seahawks and their vaunted top defense. It is the irresistible force going up against the immovable object. Denver’s explosive passing offense and Seattle’s stingy secondary. When it all comes down to it, these top units will face an opposition unlike any they have seen before this season. While the Broncos wide receivers and Seahawks defensive backs may claim that they are ready for one another, that can simply not be true, as it is difficult to prepare for such a force that has never been met before.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, I’m working as part of the Road to MetLife Stadium Preferred Blogger Program. Throughout the year I’ll be receiving special access to MetLife events and be conducting reader giveaways, with prizes provided by MetLife and Sony Electronics. However, no payment was given or expected for posting about the program, and as always, all opinions given here are fully my own.

The same can equally be said of both sides. With Peyton Manning at the helm, the Broncos have shattered nearly every single-season NFL record on offense this season. Between yards, points and touchdowns, Denver was nearly unstoppable. Demaryius Thomas is a top-five wide receiver. Wes Welker took his talents to Denver after catching more passes than any player in the NFL over a five or six year span with the New England Patriots. Eric Decker proved that he can have huge games when he is needed to serve as the No. 1 threat. Julius Thomas continued the long run of former basketball players who have turned into Pro-Bowl caliber NFL tight ends. Simply put, the Denver wide receivers are simply on another level.

Unfortunately for them, the same can be said of the Seahawks defensive backs.

Richard Sherman does do a lot of talking, but he backs it all up on the field with his incredible play. Earl Thomas may be equally as talented, even if he does not receive the same amount of attention. Kam Chancellor is a big, physical corner who is capable of shutting down any receiver at any given time. From top to bottom, this may be one of the best defensive secondary units in recent NFL history. The Legion of Boom will be ready for Denver on Sunday.

The Broncos have faced some elite defensive units this season. The Seahawks have faced some great offenses. Neither has faced a force such as the one they be facing in MetLife Stadium in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The question is, which will give first? The answer will likely produce the winner.

Finally, in case you have not yet seen the video of NFL players – both past and present – signing a collaborative version of the National Anthem, then what are you waiting for? I must admit that I went into it expecting to have some laughs, but these guys were pretty impressive. Current players such as Justin Tuck and Josh Brown of the New York Giants, Greg Jennings of the Minnesota Vikings and Nick Mangold of the New York Jets, as well as former stars including Emmitt Smith and Eddie George all got together to put out quite an impressive rendition of the National Anthem. If you have not yet seen it, make sure to check it out by clicking here.

If you are looking for which team may have a greater edge, make sure to check out Stats.com. If the temperatures dip below 40 degrees on Super Bowl Sunday, which is nearly a foregone conclusion, Stats.com will tell you how things could play out when the Broncos face the Seahawks in MetLife Stadium in Super Bowl XLVIII. It would appear that Denver may have an edge on special teams and the kicking game with Matt Prater over Steven Hauschka, but Stats.com has plenty of eye-opening numbers that may cause you to bet on one team over the other.
