The Masters 2014: Tiger Woods And Rory McIlroy Early Favorites To Win Green Jacket At Augusta

Whether he can win or not seems to never phase bettors, at least when it comes to Tiger Woods and golf enthusiasts. With The Masters less than one month away, Woods and Rory McIlroy are the early favorites to wear the Green Jacket at Augusta in April. As of now, Woods and McIlroy are listed as 6-1 favorites to win The Masters, which comes as no surprise to me, despite the fact that I cannot remember the last time Woods put together four consecutive solid rounds. Not to mention the fact that he has not won a Major since 2008. He has not won The Masters since 2005. Yet, due to his popularity – another fact that continues to both elude and baffle me – Woods continues to see his name at the top of nearly every odds list entering a Major tournament.

I would not bet on Woods or McIlroy to win The Masters. McIlroy has certainly played better than Woods in 2014, but I would pass on both, especially at those odds. Adam Scott, Jason Day and Phil Mickelson are check in at 14-1, and all three represent a smarter bet than the two early favorites. Of the three, I would tend to lean toward Day, but Scott is a decent play as well. Mickelson is still capable of winning any tournament, although his health is often a question mark.

After those five players, Henrik Stenson is listed as an 18-1 favorites, while Dustin Johnson is 20-1. Bubba Watson, Justin Rose and Zach Johnson are all at 25-1, with Jordan Spieth at 28-1. Following them at 33-1 are Brandt Snedeker, Charl Schwartzel, Matt Kuchar and Lee Westwood. All represent decent bets, especially considering the odds. Also coming in as solid plays include Hunter Mahan, Jason Dufner and Luke Donald at 40-1.
