Earlier this morning, I had the opportunity to speak with an athlete whom I have admired since she first broke on to the IndyCar scene years ago. After making the transition to NASCAR, which she said “takes time getting acclimated” to and involves “taking it to the limit,” Danica Patrick has found herself a new ride. No need to worry, racing fans, as she is not leaving the Sprint Cup Chase, but Patrick recently decided to drive the all-new Can-Am Spyder, which she deemed the “Ultimate Escape Vehicle.”
“[Can-Am Spyder] is truly the ultimate escape vehicle,” Patrick told me. “It gives you the control and the confidence with the stability of having three wheels. It takes the learning curve out of the equation. Instead of just having fun once you arrive at your destination, the Can-AM Spyder makes the destination part of the fun.”
- “I am currently a member of the Can-Am Spyder Preferred Blogger Program and this post is part of my involvement. While Can-Am Spyder provides me material and necessary resources to complete various activities, all statements and sentiment in Boston Super Blog are my own.”
Patrick also filmed a pair of commercials for the Can-Am Spyder, in which she explained how difficult it can be for celebrities to get hounded by the paparazzi. After rescuing stars such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Brooke Burke by swooping in and taking them away in a Can-Am Spyder, Patrick said of her new ride that it is perfect getaway for anyone.
Patrick said of the new ads that they “turned out great. It was a great company and great idea that was very fun. I thought it was a funny spin on escaping the norm.”

Aside from discussing her new partnership with the Can-Am Spyder, I also had the extreme pleasure of asking Patrick about her career and current life, both on and off the track.
RK: Having worked with my wife for years, I know what it can be like to work with a significant other. What are some of the pros and cons of competing with Ricky Stenhouse Jr?
DP: We definitely understand each other’s jobs really well. I think that we can give each other advice both on and off the track. We also have the same travel schedule, which works out really well. But sometimes it can be harder to avoid run-ins. It can be tough, and you definitely have to temper your success, because it can be hard if one of us is up and one is down, you don’t want to feel like your rubbing in your great day when the other one of us may be having a bad day.
RK: Coming off of the Easter holiday weekend, which provided a rare week off, what are your thoughts heading into Richmond?
DP: I hope it goes better than last time (laughs)! But that’s what can happen. Things may not go well and then all of a sudden it does go well. When I was racing with IndyCar, I had some top 5 finishes in Richmond, but I’m still trying to make that next jump [at the NASCAR level]. I’m hoping that some of the new rule changes may help.
RK: Entering this week’s Toyota Owners 400, you’re in 29th place in the 2014 Sprint Cup Standings. What expectations do you have going forward? How hard will it be to finish in the top 16 for the Chase for the Sprint Cup?
DP: Making the Chase is about winning, so I definitely need to win a race. I have to start taking more chances and use some different strategies to improve my position. You can’t just automatically expect to beat these guys who have been doing this for more than a decade. It takes time. You just have to not let it get you down.
RK: You do a lot of Crossfit and recently made some changes to your overall diet. How have you been feeling?
DP: I’ve been feeling good. I felt good before too, but I feel that my energy level is very good. Health and fitness is just another phase of competition, and I love that clock to countdown. It’s also great to have Ricky to compete with, but he’s getting a lot harder to beat!
RK: If you could pick one race to win – a dream race – in IndyCar or NASCAR – which one would it be?
DP: Any one of them (laughs). The fans know of the biggest races such as the Indy 500 or Daytona 500, and they are great. But I would also like to win a ‘Driver’s Race,’ which are some the tracks that drivers really feel would be great to win. Tracks such as Bristol, Darlington and Dover. The races that mean the most in your heart.
RK: What would it mean for both you and Ricky to win the Sprint Fan Vote for the May 17 Sprint Cup All-Star Race in Charlotte?
DP: I was lucky enough to win it [the fan vote] last year. I was at the Sprint Fan Zone and said how fortunate I am for my fans. I would love to get in by performing well, but, if I get in by winning the vote, it just shows me that I have some great fans.
RK: What has been the greatest obstacle that you have had to overcome?
DP: Just getting with the right people and having the right equipment. Having people who have faith in you.
RK: You always handle yourself so well, both on and off the track. What is it like to hear criticism, especially from members of the Petty family?
DP: Things like that are better left alone. I know that I have confidence in myself and that people continue to grow up, so you just can’t let things like that matter.
RK: Finally, so many people look up to and admire you. What advice would you give to those fans who want to be just like you?
DP: That they should want to be better than me. Don’t just want to be me, but go out and be better than me. Find out what makes you unique and different and use that to make you shine. Don’t hide it.
I would like to personally thank Danica Patrick for her time. She is the ultimate professional, so the fact that she is riding the ultimate escape vehicle in the new Can-Am Spyder is very fitting.
Currently, Patrick has partnered with BRP and the all new Can-Am Spyder to launch a new contest where fans can help her pick her new ride, as well as enter a contest to win a Spyder of their own and possibly even receive an opportunity to ride with Patrick. You can enter online or by visiting a local dealer.
Patrick knows more than a thing or two about fun, especially when it comes to finding an exciting ride.
