NBA Rumors: Should Chicago Bulls Trade Derrick Rose?

The Chicago Bulls once appeared destined to return to their glory days of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, bringing back NBA Championships to The Windy City. After all, they had the best player on the planet in Derrick Rose, who looked primed to dominate the NBA game for years to come. But then, an injury hit Rose hard. And then, another one. And now, it seems as if Rose will never be healthy again. All the talent in the world can’t help an athlete overcome constant injuries. Ask Bo Jackson. Ask Ken Griffey Jr. Ask Grant Hill. Ask Tracy McGrady. An injury-prone athlete just can’t be helped. Rose appears to be just that sort of athlete. Now, although he is back playing for Chicago this season, should the Bulls consider trading Rose? It may not sound as crazy as you think.

The other day, Rose upset quite a few people by talking about life after basketball. He said that he will continue to sit out games on a somewhat steady basis to help promote long-term health. Personally, I can’t blame him, although we are hardly in similar situations. Actually, we aren’t in a similar situation. Rose is still a young man and wants to make sure that he can enjoy life after he hangs up his high-tops. I don’t blame him.

I can, however, see why others are upset. Over the next three seasons, the Bulls are still paying Rose nearly $60 million. What once seemed like a bargain is no longer a feasible deal for a player who has failed to play more than half of a season since the 2010-2011 NBA season, and has already sat out four of the team’s first seven games to begin this season. And now, with the news of yet another injury that could force him to miss even more time, the frustration level in Chicago is rapidly growing.

When healthy, Rose is one of the elite players in the game. He has special talents. He makes his team and players around him better. Unfortunately, that can only happen when he is on the floor.

And that is something that we see less and less of on a consistent basis.
