Richard Sherman said that he is healthy enough to start for the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. Yet, with that being said, why is there still a possibility that the outspoken cornerback could miss the big game in Glendale on Sunday?
That would be the birth of his son.
Sherman’s girlfriend, Ashley Moss, is pregnant with the couple’s first child. In fact, she is due any day now. While Sherman has publicly said that he hopes his child will give him his first gift by holding off his birthday and staying inside for a little longer, he also said that he has not yet considered the possibility of missing Super Bowl 49 to attend his son’s birth.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” said Sherman. “We’re not thinking about the possibility.”
Deep down, you know that is not true. Sherman must have a pretty good idea of what he is planning to do, depending when or if his girlfriend goes into labor. Would Sherman miss the Super Bowl to be with the mother of his child? Would he arrive late? Leave early?
Ultimately, I don’t see Sherman missing the game. Other athletes have missed games to be present for the birth of a child so, obviously there is precedent.
I just can’t think of any who have missed the Super Bowl. I don’t see that precedent being started on Sunday.
