The New England Patriots are the most successful National Football League franchise over the past 15 years. They have four Super Bowl championships to back up that claim. They prove that overpriced players can be easily replaced with players who work hard, regardless of whether or not they are a household name. They should be the team that everyone loves.
Of course, they far more resemble the team that everyone loves to hate.
It is easy. They make it easy. I live in New England. I go to Foxboro all the time. I watch the Patriots. I follow the Patriots.
I hate the Patriots.
Yes, that may be a bit blasphemous, considering my location. I don’t like Robert Kraft. I’m not a fan of Bill Belichick. I can’t stand Tom Brady.
Are the winners? Absolutely. They certainly get the job done. They are successful business men, administrators, bosses and athletes. Still, I can’t take any of them.
Sure, the Patriots are winners. But, they are hardly America’s Team.
They lie. They cheat. They steal. Well, I don’t know if they steal but, they definitely lie and cheat. They cover up scandals, whether they were at the head of the orchestration or not. They lie and let others take the fall, all while claiming deniability. They did it with Spygate. They did it with Deflategate. What is next?
I’m not saying that the suspension that Brady received is fair, especially in terms of what other players have done, even more so for their off the field actions. Still, Brady lied, destroyed his cell phone and had some sort of knowledge about footballs being deflated in the AFC Playoffs against the Indianapolis Colts.
Had that not happened, would the Colts have won? I seriously doubt it. The Patriots absolutely annihilated them.
That is the problem. They didn’t need to cheat. Barry Bonds was a great hitter before he took steroids. Roger Clemens was a Hall of Fame caliber pitcher without taking performance enhancing drugs. The Patriots were a phenomenal team before they deflated footballs.
That is what happens with spoiled, entitled, arrogant personalities. They feel that they are above everything. Above the law. Above the sport. Above everyone. They truly believe that the same laws and rules do not apply to them.
The Patriots will continue to be a great team for years to come. They will also continue to be the most hated team in the league for even longer than that.
And, deservedly so.
If you are indeed trying to break back into sports writing, do your research, take the time to fact check and go with the truth not the popular. Any NFL team if put under the scrutiny that the Pats have been would be cowering in their shoes. Kraft, bellichick and Brady might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they are strong and determined to ignore the chatter and prepare for the upcoming season.
Good luck with your return to sports writing, just don’t hitch your wagon to ESPN, they are on the downside.

It’s shocking to see a resident of NE say the truth about the Patriots, Kraft, Belichick and that cheating, lying, bribing Tom Brady.
What bothers me though is the author of this piece says Brady’s suspension isn’t fair especially when compared to suspensions of other players?
First, please STOP comparing what Brady did to Peterson or Rice or Hardy etc… etc…..None of the cases are even remotely similar and if you too the time to read the (impeccable & crazily concise) 20 page document Goodell read when he denied the appeal, you will learn how and why the cases are NOT similar!
Also, please STOP talking about the last SB and how NE “won” and the score blah-blah-blah because it doesn’t frikkin matter! None of it!
If Brady “doesn’t need to cheat,” again, besides the point! They came prepared to cheat! That is what matters!
Just because NE played for the first, probably in years. During the 2nd half, with fully inflated balls and “won,” doesn’t mean jack! Because they “won” without using their deflated balls doesn’t mean they didn’t cheat! What the hell is wrong with people? STOP saying he’s some sort of QB God even tho he’s a sleepy cheater!
