No Isaiah Thomas? No problem. That was not the headline that many people would have imagined this morning, especially after the Boston Celtics once again trailed the Cleveland Cavaliers by more than 20 points in the second half of Game 3 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals. But nobody told Avery Bradley that the Celtics were just supposed to roll over for the Cavs, despite the fact that it was announced this weekend that Thomas would miss the rest of the NBA Playoffs, regardless of how far Boston was able to advance.
Many figured that would be just two more games. After all, Cleveland had annihilated Boston in Games 1 and 2 at the Garden. How could things possibly get any better for the Celtics on the road against the defending champs?
Thankfully, Brad Stevens and company shot that theory to hell.
Bradley went off for 20 points, including this game-winning three-pointer with one-tenth of a second remaining. Marcus Smart led the way with 27 points, while Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko were instrumental coming off of the bench in a monumental Boston comeback.
Are the Celtics going to rattle off three more consecutive victories to win the series and advance to the NBA Finals? Probably not. Then again, check out the astronomical odds that they overcame in Game 3 to pull off that upset. Just remember the words of Kevin Garnett…
Perhaps, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!
