WWE Rumors: Jim Ross Guarantees Conor McGregor Will Wrestle In WWE

Conor McGregor vs. John Cena? Conor McGregor vs. Roman Reigns? Conor McGregor vs. Brock Lesnar? Could any of these matches headline a future Wrestlemania? Former WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross says it is “guaranteed.”

I should clarify a few things first.

Speaking with one of the few blowhards who spews more crap than McGregor, Ross told Fox Sports 1 radio host Colin Cowherd that it is “guaranteed” that McGregor will one day wrestle for WWE. He did not predict an opponent. He did not forecast a date. He did not even say that it would be more than a “one-off” match. Here is a transcript of what JR told Cowherd:

“There’s no way you can convince me will not earn a massive check from Vince McMahon some day in the future.

It will not be a career deal, it will be a one-off special occasion, massive promotion. I would suggest maybe at a WrestleMania somewhere down the road. The attraction’s there, the marketing’s there, the money’s thereā€¦ why not make it happen?

And so I think Conor is guaranteed for that, and I also think that Conor’s not done in the octagon, either. I think that he’s a competitor. He likes to prove he’s the alpha male.”

Ross is right. Having McGregor in WWE would make perfect sense. He has the promotion skills. He has the pure athleticism. He has the money-making ability to draw in huge crowds. He is a natural for this business.

The only problem is, McGregor has dissed mostly everything and everyone involved with WWE. The question is, was that all part of a set-up for him to wrestle for the company one day? Was it a ploy to lay the ground work? McGregor is all about making money, so pulling a stunt like this would only further enhance the intrigue.

So, if The Notorious MMA wrestles in the WWE, and goes from the octagon to the squared circle, whom would he face? While McGregor would definitely draw mixed reactions, he would likely enter any match as a heel, making it likely that he would be scheduled to fight a babyface. Would he wrestle Cena? Or Reigns? Or Lesnar? Or would WWE look to book him against a wrestler who is not the size of a Cena or a Reigns or a Lesnar? Would McGregor be better served facing a WWE superstar such as Dolph Ziggler or The Miz, if the company decided that the Irishman could face a fellow heel capable of “getting him over?”

Either way, it does seem like an inevitable move. The question is, which former MMA star will be the next to join WWE? McGregor or Ronda Rousey?

Could we see McGregor and Rousey face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon? Nah. We would have a better chance of seeing Rousey team up with The Rock and take on McGregor, Triple H and Stephanie in a handicap match. Depending on which side he was on, we could then see a “Billionaire Strut” battle between McGregor and Vince McMahon.
